Google recently launched a very innovative gadget, the Google glass, its a computer that you can wear. It has a head mounted display that displays the information in a smartphone like hands free format. You can connect it with internet and can give commands in your voice. It runs on Android 4.0 OS has dual core CPU. 16 GB storage and 1 GB memory . For connectivity it supports bluetooth, micro USB and WiFi. This wearable computer from the house of Google comes at a price of $1500. Despite all these interesting features it has lots of drawbacks. Some of them are below.

1. Difficult to focus

Disorientation is the major problem of Google Glass. It becomes difficult to focus on people and things while you are putting on Google glass. It also has lot of adverse affect on eyes. Even Google has admitted that Google Glass may be bad for eyes and it could harm vision. In the terms also Google has mentioned the children below 13 should not use it.

2. Causes headache

With these glasses you have to concentrate on every small images or text content. The disorientation problem makes it difficult to concentrate. It causes strain and many times dry eyes. Most of the users who used it, complained of headache.

3. Poor screen visibility in bright light

The screen works bad in the bright light. You can hardly view anything clearly in the bright light.

4. Poor battery life

Google glass are supposed to be on your face all day for getting notifications and alerts, for this battery backup should be strong. Google says that battery last for 5 hours but it actually works only for 3-4 hours. This is too less and you have to recharge the battery many times a day to use it.

5. Can’t customize settings

Google glass comes with default settings which you can’t change. If you try to adjust the basic things like screen brightness, volume etc you will be disappointed. Whats the use of such gadgets, which doesn’t even allows you to do basic settings. ?

6. No direct data connectivity

Google glass doesn’t have direct data connectivity, you have to pair it with your smartphone or any other device for internet connectivity. This adds to your data plan costs and drain your smartphone’s battery.

7. Voice recognition not up to the mark

You can’t type, you have to respond to the messages by speaking. Speech recognition is not up to the mark, you have to speak slowly, clearly and in proper grammar and then also it can’t recognize your words correctly many times. When glass hear you incorrectly , you have to cancel the entire message and start again. This is very annoying.

With all these drawbacks I don’t think it is right to spent $1500 on this wearable computer Google glass. What do you think? let us know in comments.

We have already seen how smartphones are helping us to stay fit with Android fitness apps and iOS health & fitness apps. When we go to market to buy fruits and vegetable we always try to pick the best one. We check them by looking at their color, their looks and many times we also judge by smelling them. Even after picking the best one we get disappointed sometimes when we find the fruit we bought are rotten. This problem will soon become a thing of the past. Researchers at Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (IMPS), Germany has developed a new technology, by which people will be able to test themselves whether the fruit are ripe and fresh or not with the help of their smartphone.

The Fraunhofer researchers have developed a special spectrometer, which is very compact and is of size of a sugar cube. This can be easily be integrated to smartphone. You will also require to install the app that will make the spectrometer functional. Scientists says you would only need to hold the smartphone next to the product, select the appropriate app or menu option – for example, for “pear” and the device will make a recommendation: if the fructose content of the pear is high, it gives the purchase a green light. If an apple is scanned with the spectrometer it can detect whether the core is rotten. This device is also capable of scanning the food item wrapped in foils

Like the health of a car engine can be estimated by the smoke emission. This technology also measures the freshness of fruits by measuring the gases and lights radiated by fruits and veggies. It can also measure the proportion of water, sugar, starch, fat and proteins in different foods. The device is successfully working with fruits researchers are also trying to develop it for meat testing also.

Smartphones with this device are expected to be launched in the next couple of years. Let us know what you think about this innovation in comment.

Surely you know all about RealPlayer’s excellence as a video player and organizer. But there are plenty of great capabilities you might not be aware of that make it much more than an average video player. That’s why we’ve compiled this guide of 10 things you didn’t know you could do with RealPlayer.

1. Convert video formats

It’s well known that RealPlayer supports just about every video format available. Did you know that there’s a built-in free video converter that will easily convert your video files to any video format you choose, eliminating incompatibility issues when you want to watch videos on different devices. You can also convert videos to MP3 audio files, which is ideal for content in which the audio is more important than the visuals, such as educational videos or interviews. In essence, you’re converting video content into an audio podcast.

Don’t Miss: Online tools to convert text to audio files

2. Discover web videos

RealPlayer doesn’t just store and organize your content — you can use it to discover new videos, as well. The Web Videos feature delivers new and popular user-generated web videos directly to your RealPlayer app daily. You can download or bookmark the videos you like and save it in your RealPlayer video library with a single click. Additionally, RealPlayer Video Channels organizes content by genre, such as trending, music, travel, news, and more.

3. Create video and music playlists.

A playlist is a simple way to organize your media by any category you choose, such as genre, theme, or even mood. You can create a music playlist for a road trip featuring songs about travel, or a video playlist devoted to funny cat videos.

4. Search for videos online

If you want to find a specific video, use RealPlayer’s video search engine to scour the web for your favorite clips. These features are also available in RealPlayer Express for Windows 8, which can be downloaded from the Windows Store.

5. Transfer videos from computer to smartphone

If you have videos on your PC that you’d like to watch on your smartphone, RealPlayer makes the process simple, regardless of the video format. Simply connect the phone to your computer, open the RealPlayer library, and click on the phone icon. Hover your mouse over the video you want to move, select “Copy To,” and choose your mobile phone from the list provided. RealPlayer does the rest, and you’ll be able to watch mobile movies with the free RealPlayer for Android app.

6. Burn DVDs with RealPlayer Plus

Sometimes a DVD is the most convenient way to watch a video. You can use RealPlayer Plus to burn DVDs of your favorite online videos. You can even burn HD videos to standard DVDs, which you can then play on a Blu-ray player.

7. Burn music CDs

Digital music is the mainstream, but there are situations where a CD is the best option. RealPlayer’s built-in CD burning software lets you burn CDs of your music files with just the click of a button. You can play audio CDs created with RealPlayer on any standard CD/DVD/Blu-ray player or on a PC.

8. Play MKV files

The free RealPlayer application will play most video file formats. If you upgrade to RealPlayer Plus you’ll get support for even more file types, including the increasingly popular MKV, which has become the go-to format for anime videos because of its support of fansubs (user-generated subtitles), multiple audio tracks (such as director’s commentary), chapters, and DVD-like interactive menus.

9. Save Facebook videos in the RealPlayer library

You might have known that you can share videos in your RealPlayer library with your Facebook friends. You can also connect RealPlayer to your Facebook account to watch and save the latest videos from your Facebook news feed.

10. Bookmark videos

While it’s easy to download videos to your computer using RealPlayer, we know video can take up a lot of storage space. You can use RealPlayer to bookmark videos like you bookmark your favorite content on social bookmarking sites. With the bookmark feature you’ll be able to easily find the videos in your RealPlayer library and access them when you are online.

11. Private mode

If you have a library full of videos that you’d prefer to keep others from seeing — such as more mature content that you’d like to hide from children — RealPlayer’s Private Video Mode will keep the files hidden behind a password protected wall. You can make existing videos private or use Private Mode to download online videos to a hidden folder. In Private Mode, RealPlayer automatically gives the videos anonymous file names.

Don’t Miss: Free tools to extract music from YouTube videos

12. Free Android mobile app

We’re watching more and more video on our phones. RealPlayer’s free Android app is an all-in-one-player for videos as well as music and photos. A great option for Android phones, which often only let you access music, photos, and videos in different apps. The app includes YouTube video search and playback, and you can share content with your friends via Bluetooth, email, or text messaging. The RealPlayer Android app is available from the Google Play store.

Are you surprised about all the features found in RealPlayer? It really is more than just a video player. You can download the desktop app for free by visiting Real.com, the free Android version of RealPlayer by visiting Google’s Play Store, or RealPlayer Express from the Windows Store.

Recently Google launched Google+ comments system for Blogger which is very easy to integrate with blogger blog. When there are already so many commenting system available like default blogger and WordPress commenting system and other third party commenting system like facebook comments, disquss, intense debate etc should you go for Google+ comment system ? My answer for this is yes, because Google+ comment system has lots SEO benefits and it has some very useful features as well.

Features of Google+ comment system

1. Commentators can directly share the post and comment with a click. If comment is shared on Google+, all replies to the comment on the Google+ stream will show up in blog as a comment replies and vice versa.

2. Comments can be sorted by popularity or you can make the newest comments appear first.

3. You can view the blog and Google+ comments at one place. So you don’t need to check separately what people are commenting on the blog and on Google plus on a particular post. This will increase engagement with commentators. Bloggers can see activity from their readers and from people talking about the posts on Google+

4. It also takes good care of privacy. Commenters get the option to comment publicly or privately to their circles on Google+. It also gives users the option to see everybody’s comments or just remarks from users in their own circles.

How to Enable Google+ Comments on Blogger

Step 1 Connecting Blogger Profit to Google+

If your blogger profile is already connected to Google plus you can skip this step. To connect you profile visit your Blogger dashboard and check the Google+ tab. From there you can connect your blogger profile to Google+

Step 2 Enabling Google+ Comments Navigate to Blogger dashboard

Chose your blog. Click the Google+ tab and check the box saying “Use Google+ comments on this Blog. That’s all and you are done.

Enabling Google+ Comments on WordPress

The easiest way to install Google Plus comment on WordPress blog is through plugins. You can download Enable Google+ Comments , WordPress plugin Note that this will remove the default WordPress comment system. If you don’t like using WordPress Plugins, you can install it manually by placing the below code in the comment.php file

<script type=”text/javascript” src=”https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js”></script> <div id=”plusonecomments” style=”width: 600px;height: 300px;”></div> <script type=”text/javascript”> window.setTimeoutundefinedfunctionundefined) { var id = ‘plusonecomments’; var divWidth = document.getElementByIdundefinedid).offsetWidth; var width = !!divWidth ? Math.minundefineddivWidth, 750) : 600; var url = “<?php the_permalinkundefined); ?>”; var moderationUrl = “”; var moderationMode = “FILTERED_POSTMOD”; gapi.comments.renderundefinedid, { ‘href’: url, ‘first_party_property’: ‘BLOGGER’, ‘legacy_comment_moderation_url’: moderationUrl, ‘view_type’: moderationMode, ‘width’: width }); }, 10); </script>

What are your views on Google+ commenting system. Do you think it will be successful like facebook comments ? Let us know your views in comments.

I have seen lots of bloggers commenting on commentluv enabled blog. Commenting is a easy way to build relationship with other bloggers and to get links for your website. On commentluv enabled blogs you have the extra advantage that you get one extra backlink. One main link pointing to your domain and another link to your recent post. Most of the commentluv enabled blogs are on blogging and SEO niche and if your niche is not blogging related, then your link on such blogs won’t help you much. As we all know Google rewards backlinks from related sites, backlinks from unrelated websites doesn’t helps much.

Many bloggers are blogging on Technology niche and are writing about tips and tricks, gadgets , tech news etc . For those tech niche bloggers I have complied the list of Commentluv enabled tech blogs. Tech bloggers can use these commentluv enabled tech blogs.

For those who don’t know about communtluv, its a free WordPress plugin that displays the recent blog post of the commentator in his comments. The premium version of this plugin offers lots of extra features. Some of the advantages of commenting on commentluv enabled blogs are

You get a backlink for your blog or website

You get a backlink for your recent post

You can use the keywords in the name field

You can get refferal traffic from that blog

You can build relationship with other blogger by being regular commentator

One can also enable commentluv in his/her blog to attract more comments and traffic. Finally here is the list. I have included active blogs only with PR atleast 2, some of these blogs are dofollow also. Check out list of dofollow social bookmarking sites.

You can also block the unwanted numbers with it. If you link your facebook account with this app then you can also see the caller’s facebook status.

How nice it would be if you can carry your own Windows 8 in your pocket ? That Windows can have your own exact custom settings and software that you use in your laptop or desktop computer. This can be greatly useful if you have to conduct some data recovery operation on any infected computer.

Microsoft has added a new feature to Windows 8 Enterprise edition, called Windows To Go. With Windows to go you can create Windows 8 system image and can run it form any USB flash drive. You can insert the USB drive into any Windows 7 or Windows 8 host computer to boot and run a managed Windows 8 system without installing any software on the host computer. This works like a portable OS in a USB drive. It can be launched on desktops, laptops and even some tablets.

Requirements for Windows To Go

To create Windows to go USB drive you need Windows 8 Enterprise edition on your system . Unfortunately other versions of Windows 8 doesn’t have the Windows To Go feature. If you don’t have Enterprise edition and you don’t want to buy it then you can download a 90 day evaluation version of Windows 8.

You also need a USB drive of minimum capacity 16 GB, though Microsoft recommends using a 32 GB USB 3.0 disk, and has a list of certified devices, but many non certified drives also works well.

Creating Windows To Go in USB Flash Drive

Step 1. Insert Windows 8 Enterprise DVD in the drive. Insert the USB drive

Step 2. Press the Windows key + W to search the system Settings, then type “Windows to Go,” and press Enter to launch the Create a Windows To Go workspace wizard.Select the dive that you want to use and click Next.

If the next button is not highlighted, it means your drive is not compatible, try with any other drive.

Step 3. The wizard will locate the Windows 8 image file on your OS disc. You will then get the option use BitLocker to encrypt the Windows To Go workspace. You can skip this if you want to make the process faster. The Windows 8 image will be created on the USB device.

Step 4. In the last step you have to select the boot option. Select it as per your choice and save it. You are done!

Once a USB drive has been made you can choose whether to set up the host PC to boot from USB devices, or leave it as it is. You can also download the Windows To Go USB setup utility that does the same thing

If you are using WordPress as a blogging platform on your website, then you may have used GTmetrix sometimes to scan your WordPress blog for speed and optimization. GTmetrix uses Google page speed and Yahoo Y slow tools to scan the website. After the scan it gives some recommendation to optimize your WordPress website.

Few recommendation are common like caching, compressing images and minifying css and javascript which can be implemented easily with WordPress plugins. But many GTmetrix recommendations like optimizing the order of styles and scripts, combining images using CSS sprites, leveraging browser cache, enabling gzip compression etc are not easy to implement as plugins for them are not available. In this post we will discuss on implementing some advance optimizing techniques. Make sure you back up everything, in case if anything went wrong you can get your site to previous state.

1. Implementing Leverage Browser Caching in WordPress

In browser caching static resources of a website like images, css, javascript etc are stored in user’s browser. This means whenever the user access other pages of your websites his browser wont have to load those static things of your website again. The end result of this is that your pages load much faster. To enable browser caching we have set an expiry date to maximum age in the HTTP headers for static resources so that the static resources of your websites remains in the users browser for the maximum time.

You can enable leverage browser caching via .htaccess file. Add the below code in the .htaccess file

Header unset Pragma
FileETag None
Header unset ETag
## Leverage Browser Caching ##

ExpiresActive On
ExpiresByType image/jpg “access plus 1 year”
ExpiresByType image/jpeg “access plus 1 year”
ExpiresByType image/gif “access plus 1 year”
ExpiresByType image/png “access plus 1 year”
ExpiresByType text/css “access plus 1 month”
ExpiresByType application/pdf “access plus 1 month”
ExpiresByType text/x-javascript “access plus 1 month”
ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash “access plus 1 month”
ExpiresByType image/x-icon “access plus 1 year”
ExpiresDefault “access plus 2 days”

## Leverage Browser Caching ##

2. Optimizing the order of Styles and scripts

Correct ordering of the stylesheets and scripts enables better parallelization of downloads of those stylesheets and scripts files. To ensure CSS files are downloaded in parallel, external CSS should be included before Javascript. This thing is complicated to implement manually. You can use the order styles and Javascript plugin for this taks.

3. Combine Images using CSS Sprite

More images on a page means more http requests and this ultimately results in increase in load time of the webpage. There are so many images like page background image, social icons images etc that are displayed in every page. Each of such image make seperate http request. With CSS sprites you can combine all those images in to a single image, this will reduce the number of http requests and will ultimately improve the load time. To Combine images using css sprite you can try this CSS Sprites WordPress plugin . This plugins is quite outdated and may not work with every theme. You can also generate css sprites manually using spriteme and follow the implementation instruction there.

Few more things that you can do to optimize WordPress blog further are
